August 2018 Meeting Notes

Howdy All,

We met at Walter's the past Wednesday.

State Fair Competition

The State Fair is looking for stewards to help with the home brew and craft brew competition. This is a great way to get acquainted with beer comps, and it helps us to represent Pueblo. You can register to be a steward at Reggiebeer.

Summer Club Competition

We held our annual Golden Buddha Competition. This year we decided on Kolsch as the style for the competition. We had four entrants vying for the coveted Buddha. Adam Wiseman, Jason Cipriani, Bart Carter & Lee Bongirno brewed their take on this classic German beer. Adam came out on top. Congrats Adam! Here he sits in his home for the next year.

Club Membership Drive

We will hold a Dust the Keg membership drive at the Gold Dust on August 17th. Paid members will get a pint or two free! It is also Troy Rahner's birthday, so come out and wish him well.

Hop Farm Tour

We are planning on touring High Altitude Hop Farm on August 25th. There will be BBQ for lunch, it will be free for paid members and $5 for non-paying members. We're going to work on getting a carpool together & homebrew is welcome.

Educational Piece

For our educational topic this month Troy showed us all how to build a hop spider. It's a great way to keep hop matter separated from your finished wort. Benefits include keeping trub out of the fermenter, or from clogging a pump or plate chiller. It's a great project to help improve the quality of your beer! You can find more details about how to build one of these yourself in the education section of the website!

Cheers Y'all!,
